It is a great honor for me to write the foreword for this very personal history of Mrs. Tia Titus. The title of her book ” Unexplainable Joy: My Triumphant Bout With Breast Cancer ” may seem odd in light of the diagnosis Mrs. Titus was given. However in reading her book one realizes that the title is quite appropriate.

I met Mrs. Titus in August of 2014. She was forty-eight years old and a medical work up revealed that she had breast cancer. The fact that she had no family history of breast cancer is not surprising since a family history does not exist for most patients. From the beginning of her journey with cancer, Mrs. Titus has demonstrated not only courage but an attitude that screamed “I will conquer this and I will not let cancer rain on my life.”

During my forty years of surgical practice, I have never had a patient with a more positive attitude in conquering this disease. She is not only a motivating force to others with this disease, but she has been and continues to be a motivating force in my practice.
